Irish band Fontaines D.C. has announced that they will be performing their biggest-ever Manchester headline show at Wythenshawe Park next summer. The announcement follows on from the epic double-header weekend headlined by Blossoms and New Order held at the park earlier this year.
Taking place on Friday 15th August 2025, Fontaines D.C. will be joined by Belfast hip hop trio Kneecap and Mercury Prize award winners English Teacher at the 26,000-capacity outdoor gig. The news comes fresh off the back of the release of ROMANCE, the band’s biggest album to date and even songwriting legend Elton John recently declared that they’re “the best band out there at the moment”.
The Dublin-born, London-based quintet is comprised of Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan (bass), and Tom Coll (drums) and 2024 has been a massive year for the GRAMMY-nominated and BRIT Award-winning Irish band. In June, Fontaines D.C. performed a defining show at Glastonbury’s Park Stage and followed it up with another widely lauded performance at Reading & Leeds Festival last month.
The band continue to tour North America as part of their extensive world tour which will see them also travel to Canada, Europe, UK, and Ireland throughout 2024 to perform multiple sold-out shows, including three shows at Aviva Studios in Manchester, leaving Wythenshawe Park the only chance for fans to bag tickets to see them in Manchester. Fontaines D.C. is best known for songs Starburster, I Love You, Favourite and Jackie Down The Line.
Among the first announced to perform alongside Fontaines D.C. at Wythenshawe Park will be the global phenomenon that is Kneecap. Since they burst out of a squat in West Belfast, Kneecap have created their own genre of Irish punk rap, melding the Irish and English language with intoxicating energy and potent lyrics, speaking to a time of political upheaval, youthful rebellion and discontent, and a renewed urge to party.
Joining them will be Leeds four-piece, English Teacher, comprised of members Lily Fontaine (vocals), Lewis Whiting (guitar), Douglas Frost (drummer) and Nicholas Edgen (bass), the band fuses dream-pop, psychedelia and emo-rock with smart, fresh songwriting. Their album, This Could Be Texas won them this year’s Mercury Prize award.
Tickets for Fontaines D.C. at Wythenshawe Park go on general sale at 9am on Friday 4 October via Ticketmaster. For those signed up to the Fontaines D.C. pre-sale, tickets will be available on Wednesday 2nd October at 9am.
