Looking to dock at the North Bay of Salford Quays is a new, purpose-built hotel with a difference, one of which being that it won’t be on land. Plans have been unveiled by The Good Hospitality Group, which could see the Greater Manchester waterside area of Salford Quays welcome its first ever floating hotel, called Good Hotel.
The proposed floating hotel aims to contribute to the continued regeneration of the Salford Quays area and will become a new landmark at the North Bay. Comprising of 180 stylish guest rooms, the hotel will also include an open plan living room bar/restaurant open to both the public and hotel guests. Positioned immediately to the north of the Lowry Theatre and a 2-minute walk from the MediaCityUK Metrolink stop, the hotel will be within easy reach of Greater Manchester’s key attractions.
With successful operations in London’s Royal Docks, Antigua and Guatemala City, The Good Hospitality Group is a socially conscious, international hotel chain founded by Marten Dresen in 2013 that is all about creating a premium hospitality experience with a cause. Their mission, “Sleep good. Do good,” reflects their belief that hotels should be both beautiful and beneficial to the communities they serve.
At Good Hotel, the profits go into a plethora of causes, including educating children in Guatemala, and retraining locals, to offer jobs to those who have been unemployed long term. The hotel’s pioneering scheme was even featured on BBC documentary The Hidden World of Hospitality, led by Tom Kerridge, in 2023.
Working closely with Salford City Council, The Good Hospitality Group aims to extend their training programmes to benefit the local community. They are already in discussions with the council about the role their Good Training Programme can play in supporting the local area, helping local residents secure long-term employment opportunities.
Marten Dresen, Founder of The Good Hospitality Group, said: “We are hugely excited to bring our floating Good Hotel concept to Salford Quays: a thriving tourist and commercial destination. We will collaborate with local partners and establish a successful training programme, mirroring the success we have experienced in London where hundreds of trainees have so far completed our Good Training Programme. As we prepare to submit our plans, we’re committed to providing meaningful opportunities for local residents, helping them secure long-term employment and contributing positively to the community.”
Ahead of submitting a planning application to Salford City Council, local residents are being asked to view and comment on the proposals up until August 9, 2024, which can be found on their consultation website here. Subject to planning, The Good Hospitality Group is looking to bring their purpose-built floating Good Hotel vessel to Salford Quays by early 2026.
