First Dates has officially moved to Manchester.
But where is the restaurant providing the romantic backdrop for our hopeful love birds? Tucked away in Manchester’s Spinningfields district, The Refinery has officially taken the reins from London’s Paternoster Chop House – and the series has been well received by Northerners already, who are finally getting a shot at love at the hands of Fred and his team thanks to its new location.
Well known for its casual and contemporary vibe and plush decor, The Refinery has been providing Mancs with a laid-back dining destination since 2016 – fitting in perfectly with its chic neighbours such as Menagerie, Tattu and Australasia.
Usually adorned with modern black and grey touches and soft faux fur throws over the chairs, the restaurant has undergone a special makeover ahead of its debut in First Dates – with romantic-toned velvets, sophisticated marble finishes and low-hanging industrial lighting taking centre stage. What better setting to fire Cupid’s bow?
Serving a diverse menu that everyone can enjoy (when they’re not acting as Cupid’s den), guests can enjoy dishes such as burgers, fish and chips, Malaysian chicken curry and steak. There’s a pretty impressive selection of sharers, too, including a charcuterie board, a mezze board and plates such as salt & Szechuan pepper squid, skewers and vegan chicken tacos.
In addition to the perfect menu for a date night, the restaurant offers both afternoon tea and a brilliantly boozy bottomless brunch – where guests can enjoy all-day breakfast plates from 10 am till 3pm every weekend. A DJ is usually on hand for the occasion, too, making it an extra special outing (particularly once lockdown is finally done with). Plates vary from avo on toast to fish and chips, again, providing a little something for everyone to enjoy for 90 minutes of boozy fun.
The Refinery is expected to re-open once lockdown lifts in the UK, meaning we’ll finally be able to experience its brand new look for the First Dates show.
