Not to jinx it but Manchester has seen quite the weather forecast recently with many a dry day with the sun beaming in the sky, and luckily for us the sun is set to stick around a lot longer as we have more hours of sunlight. Although daylight saving happens every year, Manchester will soon get to experience the first 9pm sunset of the year this month and boy are we ready for it!
Manchester has not enjoyed a 9pm sunset since all the way back on August 3, 2024, but soon Mancs will be able to soak up the sunshine for longer (if it sticks around) and can enjoy their evenings not in complete darkness. The sun will soon be rising before 5am and setting post-9pm, meaning we can appreciate more than 16 hours of daylight!
Bringing some brightness to our day, from next week the first 9pm sunset of the year in Manchester will take place, meaning you can leap out of the office and even stick around for some cheeky post-work drinks at your nearest watering hole without streetlights being a complete necessity. This pretty much means summer is on the horizon and with the dry and somewhat sunny weather we’ve been having, it may have arrived early…
According to tracking site Time and Date, the first 9pm sunset in Manchester will take place on May 13th 2025 when the sun isn’t leaving us until bang on 9pm. This means from that day onwards we will get just under three months of sunsets taking place at 9pm or later before the number of hours of daylight gradually get shorter ahead of clocks changing. The latest sunset to take place in Manchester this year will be on the days between June 19 and 30, with the sun setting at 9.41pm.
Nonetheless, we will take this as the first sign that summer is on its way and the cold and dark months will be a distant memory – at least until daylight savings rear their head once more later this year, but let’s try not to think about that for the time being. Now, get me to a beer garden with a pint in hand!
