Manchester has its fair share of hometown bands, from Oasis, to The Charlatans, to the iconic Ting Tings. Now, another one of our own is coming home, as elbow are set to return to Manchester’s O2 Ritz in November, with a very special celebration.
To celebrate 25 years of ‘Asleep In The Back’, elbow will play three very special hometown shows on 20th, 21st and 22nd November 2026 at the Ritz, intimate shows of just 1,500-capacity each night. The band will perform ‘Asleep In The Back’ in its entirety, alongside selected B-sides and rarities – a coup for die-hard fans.
2001’s ‘Asleep In The Back’ boasted the likes of Newborn, Any Day Now and Powder Blue, standing the 25-year test of time. The intimate Manchester gigs will hopefully throw up some old anthems too, like One Day Like This, Grounds for Divorce and Magnificent (She Says), and knowing Guy and co., there’ll be plenty.

Lead singer Guy Garvey said: “It’s fascinating for us to revisit the atmosphere we created, and the Ritz feels like the perfect setting to capture that atmosphere. A time machine night for us and for the fans. See you there.”
Known more recently for his ‘Finest Hour’ on BBC Radio 6 Music, Guy Garvey often waxes lyrical about the music industry, playing a range of iconic tunes and keeping touch with fans the world over. These Manchester gigs are just another opportunity to see him in action, in his frontman form.
