It’ll be the city’s first-ever rum garden!
After half a decade of gin dominating the scene, a new spirit is set to steal the crown. And that spirit is rum. In the works after three successful years in business, The Salford Rum Company is set to open its very first distillery, with a stunning location scouted on Viaduct Street, Salford.
Aptly named The Dirty Old Town Distillery after the song ‘Dirty Old Town’ which featured on The Pogues 1985 album Rum Sodomy & the Lash, the beautiful space will be totally transformed for the project, with the duo behind Salford Rum planning Manchester’s first-ever rum garden as part of the new venue. If that wasn’t all, The Dirty Old Town Distillery will also be home to a craft copper still, which will be used to create small batches of the rum that forms the brand’s impressive core offering.
Tommy Gaughan, one half of the duo behind Salford Rum, said: “The support we’ve had locally for Salford Rum is nothing short of incredible. When looking for somewhere to take the brand to the next level, it was always going to be in Salford, and always going to be a place whereby our supporters can come and feel like they’re part of the Salford family.”
Co-founder James Harrison: “It’s been quite a ride and our first step into hospitality feels surreal. It’s time for us to grow in Greater Manchester’s vibrant drinks scene and for the brand to have somewhere to develop and – of course – serve awesome drinks. We’ve got so many ideas and can’t wait to see the distillery space, bar and rum garden come to life over the next couple of months.”
Salford Rum began life back in 2018, when Tommy and James took inspiration from the booming craft gin sector that has seen popular brands such as Manchester Gin and Didsbury Gin completely take off. The pair wanted to rival the sector, bringing to town unique craft rum in two core flavours: Salford Spiced Rum and Salford Dark Spice, as well as a variety of sell-out specials, which includes their popular Honey Rum.
The Dirty Old Town Distillery is set to open its doors in early 2022, but you can find out the latest right here.
