We may have overcome the bleak month of January, but sadly the news of closures across the city hasn’t improved. Having been “under massive financial strain”, Northern Quarter bar and restaurant Cocktail Beer Ramen + Bun has announced that it will be closing its doors.
Known for specialising in comforting, umami-packed bowls of ramen and fluffy, flavoursome bao buns alongside creative, mouthwatering cocktails and refreshing beer, the venue on Manchester’s Oldham Street has been serving customers since November 2018. This Sunday (February 12) will be Cocktail Beer Ramen + Bun’s last day, explaining that factors such as cost of goods sky rocketing and energy bills more than doubling have made it extremely difficult for the bar and restaurant to continue to do what they love.
Announcing the news that it would closing on Instagram, Cocktail Beer Ramen + Bun (CBRB) said: “This is probably the hardest thing we’ve ever had to write. The worst news we’ve ever had to deliver. This Sunday will be our last. The last noodle pull. The last blue drink. The last dinner service.
“We want to be as honest with you as possible. After all, it’s you lot that make this place what it is and it’s you who have kept us going as long as we have. CBRB wouldn’t be where it is today without your amazing love + support over the last 4 years…”
“The business has been under massive financial strain, that we have unfortunately been unable to pull ourselves out of. The obstacles that have been affecting everyone in the hospitality industry right now. The cost of goods sky rocketing. Energy bills more than doubling. They’re all massive factors and they’ve all made it extremely difficult to continue doing what we love, without compromising on quality.
“It breaks our heart to have to make this decision and please know, it has not come lightly or without months of deliberation, meetings and rescue plans. Countless discussions about a way out of the shit that wouldn’t end up coming to this.”
The owners of the late night ramen joint ended their post by urging followers to support their independent bar, eat out at their favourite family-owned restaurants and order that takeaway from their local small business. “So many amazing ideas and talented businesses in our industry are struggling and closing almost every day now and they need your help,” said Cocktail Beer Ramen + Bun.
Bookings and walk ins at Cocktail Beer Ramen + Bun will operate as normal this week until the business’ final day on February 12.
