A historic Northern garden near Manchester has officially been named one of the best garden to visit in the UK this spring, according to new research by CEWE.
The ranking was based on a combination of Google star ratings, number of reviews, and how frequently visitors described each destination using terms such as “best”, “outstanding” and “must-see”.
Royal Botanic Kew Gardens in Richmond, the UNESCO World Heritage Site secured first place thanks to its impressive 1,835 spring-related reviews and a 4.7-star rating from more than 52,000 visitors.
Spanning 320 acres, Kew is home to over 50,000 plants, iconic Victorian glasshouses, and seasonal highlights like the Garden of Peace and Bamboo Garden.
Chatsworth House named one of the best UK gardens
Coming in second place is Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, a particularly appealing option for those based in Manchester and the North West.
Located in Bakewell on the edge of the Peak District, Chatsworth offers an easy countryside escape within around an hour’s drive from Manchester, making it one of the most accessible top-ranked gardens outside London.
The historic estate earned 694 spring-related reviews and holds a 4.7-star rating from over 24,000 visitors. First built in the 16th century, Chatsworth spans 105 acres of landscaped gardens, blending formal design with natural beauty.

Visitors in spring can expect vibrant blooms across the Rose Garden and Cottage Garden , dramatic water features, including the Emperor Fountain and Willow Tree Fountain. Along with sweeping parkland views set against the Peak District backdrop.
Chatsworth’s cinematic appeal also adds to its charm, having featured in productions such as Pride & Prejudice and Peaky Blinders.
In spring, the estate becomes particularly photogenic, with fresh greenery and colourful displays making it a standout for day trips and weekend visits.
Other best UK gardens for spring revealed

The research shows England leading the way when it comes to top-rated spring gardens, with the majority of entries in the top 20 located south of the border.
Other standout destinations include:
Bodnant Garden in North Wales, known for its wildflower meadows and mountain views
RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey, home to more than 25,000 plant species
Stourhead in Wiltshire, famous for its classical landscape and iconic Palladian bridge
The Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall, a restored historic estate rich in biodiversity
Scotland also features prominently, with locations such as Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh and Glasgow Botanic Gardens making the list.

While Kew Gardens may take the crown, Chatsworth House stands out as one of the most compelling spring destinations.

For Manchester residents in particular, it offers a rare balance of convenience and countryside escape, without the need for long-distance travel.
