There are few artists so iconic that you can identify their songs from just a few seconds of a melody, or a snippet of a lyric. However, Amy Winehouse is definitely one of those acclaimed artists. Her distinctive tones have left a lasting legacy in the jazz and pop worlds, and this June, Amy Winehouse will be paid tribute with a Candlelight concert in the city. Tickets are already on sale to this sublime evening of music – you can get yours here.
On the evening of June 18, local singer Anna Kathryn Lynch will take to the stage in the darkened Halle St Peter’s, ethereally lit with hundreds of candles – the space won’t be completely Back To Black, don’t worry. Accompanied by a talented band of musicians, Lynch will perform covers of the generation-defining hits You Know I’m No Good, Rehab and Tears Dry On Their Own, as well as others from Winehouse’s catalogue of music. There’ll be two performances on the night, one at 6pm and the other at 8.30pm, so you’ll be able to choose a show that suits you best.
The venue for this Amy Winehouse Candlelight concert, Halle St Peter’s, is a performance space in the heart of Ancoats that was once a church. The restored, Grade II-listed building has since been extended, and often hosts choir and orchestral performances, and recording sessions. Halle St Peter’s imposing columns and arched ceilings will be bathed in the warm glow of candlelight on the night, providing the perfect setting for Winehouse’s songs of love and heartbreak.
