Bundobust Brewery on Oxford Street will be showing all of England’s Euros games − and to heighten the celebrations, the Indian street food venue is launching a new limited-edition menu of nostalgic football specials. Inspired by fan favourite half-time memories, the new Bundobust menu includes the limited-edition Vindaloo Pie in collaboration with Great North Pie Co.
The Bundobust Vindaloo Pie consists of flavourful vegetable vindaloo encased within the pie maker’s buttery, flaky pastry and served with mushy ragdha and desi gravy. The menu also takes inspiration from your typical footie chips and hotdog with the Hot Bundog, a soy and mushroom masala hot dog sausage with Thums Up fried onions in a brioche bun, plus Gobi Wingers, crispy-fried cauliflower with garlic, chilli, ginger, and curry leaf, and Mogo Panenka Chip, crispy cassava fries tossed in maple-chilli desi ketchup.
Guests will also find the Rick Stein approved Raghda Pethis; a fusion dish where mushy peas are spiced with garam masala, cooked until tender, and then layered with potato cakes, sev, tomato, onion, and topped off with Bundo’s tamarind chutney.
In typical Bundobust fashion the menu features a secret “menu hack” where you can order the Pie Pav, nicknamed ‘The Fat Les‘, after the classic ‘Vindaloo’ footy song. Better known as a Wigan Kebab, the dish consists of a (you guessed it) Vindaloo Pie in a bap with mushy peas to dip in.
Mayur Patel, Bundobust Co-Founder, said: “The Bundo team are big footy fans and we wanted curate a really welcoming and accessible space to both watch the Euros, as well as hero a menu inspired by it…
“There’s such a nostalgia for food at football grounds and we wanted to capture that with the nation’s love of pies and curry for the Euros. Enter the Vindaloo Pie. This curry is widely known as the hottest at most Indian restaurants, but ours is true to the traditional style; and the very untraditional style of having it in a pie butty!”
Neil Broomfield, Great North Pie Co. Founder, added: “We first met Bundo whilst trading at the IMBC in Manchester years ago! We always talked about making a collaboration pie and this seemed like the perfect time.
“The vindaloo pie was the perfect fit for the Euros, we worked on the recipe, using GNPC’s brown sauce to replace the Imli and using Bundo’s garam masala. The fillings encased in our all butter pastry and served with spiced mushy raghda peas pairs so well together.”
Guests can enjoy Shynee, a crisp, light and refreshing lager brewed at Bundobust Brewery in Manchester − with a malt & hop line-up full of homegrown talent. Also available are Bundobust’s three-litre tabletop beer towers, meaning you won’t have to choose between getting a round in and catching all of the action! Guests can also try the Half Time Orange, made with tequila, triple sec and Aperol with a spiced orange chaser, made for mid or post match cheers.
Bookings can be made for all England matches, plus the team is ready to turn the sound on for any game at request. Those who aren’t fussed by football, can still get the limited-edition food and drink items from Monday 10 June − Sunday 14 July.
Book your table to watch the match for £5 (which includes your first pint of Bundobust beer, glass of wine or soft drink) here.
