Whilst the weather in Manchester is getting chilly, things are heating up over at The Blues Kitchen as they prepare to host a flamin’ hot wings eating competition on Wednesday 17 November, and it’s so deliciously brutal that we’re simultaneously sweating and salivating.
If you think you’ve got what it takes then you can sign up to compete with 49 other brave contestants and munch your way through hot wings topped with 5 rounds of different DevilDog Sauces with eye-watering Scoville levels. However, spectators are entitled to free (not so) hot wings, so if you can’t stand the heat then you can sit and watch in amusement whilst others set their mouths ablaze.
Five rounds begin with the Mango, Scotch Bonnet & Lime sauce. This fruity sauce measures around 400,000 Scoville units, which is 100 times hotter than a jalapeno. Then there’s the Reaper, Scorpion & 7 Pot Chilli sauce (around 1.6 million Scoville units), the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T (1.2 million units), and the 7 Pot Primo (1.3 million units). This first round will have contestants sweating but if you can’t stand the heat then get out of the kitchen because these sauces may as well be ketchup compared to the next rounds’.
The Naga Viper (1.4 million Scoville units) makes an appearance in the next round, just to make the contestants sweat even more, alongside the Carolina Reaper in round four. Then comes the final round where those left standing will have to endure the fiery heat of The Decider. Made with Armageddon Chilli, this sauce is around 1.3 million Scoville units and it will decide who wins a £50 tab at The Blues Kitchen, which is definitely worth sweating for!
