Channel 4’s The Piano wowed audiences last year as incredible musicians were discovered UK-wide in public spaces. Most memorable was Lucy, who stunned onlookers from her first performance at Leeds train station, to her royal performance at the King’s Coronation having won the show, all without sight β and the search is on once again as The Piano embarks on its second series, with a special surprise for Manchester in the form of a Big Piano.
On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April, Channel 4 is set to install a massive seven metre long Big Piano β similar to the FAO Schwarz piano seen in the film Big β in Exchange Court, Manchester Arndale for members of the public, families, celebrities, local personalities and content creators to have a go on. There will also be performers dancing on the Big Piano throughout the weekend, so if you don’t fancy it yourself, there’s always something incredible to watch.
Alongside this, there will be a Steinway piano that will be tuned as part of the installation, so any true pianists can still get involved. Of course, the installation is absolutely free to visit and get involved in, and being in the Arndale Centre is very convenient for most, especially if you’re spending the day bobbing in and out of the shops or restaurants.
You can also apply for the third series of The Piano if you reckon your skills are up to snuff!
Bring out your inner Lang Lang or Mika, and get stuck into this “fun and noisy” activity, as described by Channel 4, in anticipation of the award-winning show coming back to our screens with the iconic Claudia Winkleman at the helm. We’ll also be keeping an eye out to see whether The Piano will be making its way to Manchester for the show itself, and perhaps make a famous Manc.
π The Big Piano installation will be located in Exchange Court, Arndale Centre, Manchester M4 3AD.
