On our Doorstep Taste Tour with Deliveroo, we’ve been tapping into the insider knowledge of the inspiring foodies we’ve been meeting along the way. For the Manchester leg of the tour, this involved us sitting down for an exclusive chat with Almost Famous owner, Beau Myers, to find out more about his culinary journey and how his award-winning restaurant came to be.
But as the brains behind his own restaurant, we couldn’t leave without asking him his best Deliveroo food spots in Manchester for the perfect night in. These were his five top picks…
1. Zena Restaurant
Zena’s drool-inducing Levantine menu has all the makings of an unforgettable Deliveroo feast. With an abundance of hot and cold mezze dishes, succulent grilled meats and vibrant salads and sides, the world really is your oyster. In fact, after hearing Beau describe their food as ‘clean, balanced, amazing Middle Eastern flavour bombs’, we promptly made arrangements to Deliveroo an order of hot mixed mezze, spicy Zena chicken, Arabic rice, and stuffed vine leaves to our door. Thanks for the recommendation Beau!
2. Black Spot Pizza
Black Spot Pizza in Heaton Mersey is made it onto Beau’s list of best Deliveroo food spots because of their brilliant sourdough bases. They’re proved for 48 hours, giving them a texture (both stretchy and crispy!) so irresistible that Beau claims it is actually out-of-body-experience-inducing. In fact, he could barely list off a handful of toppings before deciding he was in dire need of ordering one, right there and then. As soon as we heard the words ‘wagyu salami’ and ‘hot honey’, we suddenly realised just how hungry we were too…
3. Mughli Charcoal Pit
Being the passionate foodie that he is, we weren’t surprised to see Mughli get a mention on Beau’s list. After all, Almost Famous collab-ed with this Deliveroo Restaurant Award-winning spot a few years back to create the ‘Slumdog Billionaire’. This fusion burger consisted of a double cheese patty, tandoori chicken drenched in Mughli’s signature butter chicken sauce topped with crispy bhaji fried onions, and wonder dusted tater tots. As we quickly learned after a few minutes of foodie chat, Beau is a man who knows what he likes, and navigates his way around the Deliveroo app with very clear intent. Seeing as he chose it to feature in his burger, it makes perfect sense that Mughli’s ‘banging’ butter chicken, which he described as ‘so tender, so charred, so delicious’, is what he orders for a night in.
4. Lucky Chicken
On the rare occasion that Beau decides to switch it up and venture beyond his own exceptional burger menu, Lucky Chicken’s ‘stacked super juicy chicken burgers with epic sauces to drench them in, and crispy tater tots’ are his go-to. These sauces he speaks of range from gravy and BBQ to hot honey and teriyaki. And as for the tater tots, well, the ‘lucky dust’ they sprinkle on top is absolutely to-die-for.
5. Go Falafel
Beau makes no secret of the fact that he likes indulgent food, but we also know that he’s always a man with a plan when ordering a Deliveroo. So even when he’s craving something a little lighter (a scenario he describes as a ‘curveball’), he still has a staple! Go Falafel serves hearty, healthy falafel wraps stuffed with superfood salads and tangy sauces that make for the ultimate tasty guilt-free takeaway. Paired with a fresh juice or smoothie, it’s easily the most enjoyable way to factor in your five-a-day.
