A Gourmet Kebab Restaurant Will Open In The Northern Quarter With A Berlin-Style Basement Bar Beneath It

The team behind brunch favourite The Pen & Pencil will open a Berlin-style bar and kebab restaurant in Manchester’s Northern Quarter this month.

The Berlin bar scene is filled with derelict buildings that have been transformed into the latest clandestine hot spot, and organisers said Honey Trap Club will be no different. There will be no bells and whistles, and no dress code, making it the perfect venue for an impromptu night out, a little slice of Berlin in Manchester.

Made with Northern Quarter regulars in mind, the owners say the Berlin style bar has been designed for uncomplicated fun (oo-err) with no airs and graces. Situated just off Stevenson Square, the bar promises good European beers, reinvented classic cocktails and dancing until the early hours.

The venue will be rough around the edges, with the main focus being the party itself. Paying homage to the famous Berlin club scene with reclaimed furniture, graffiti in the bathrooms, exposed brick and LED lights.

Kevin Connor of The Pen & Pencil said:

“The team has spent a lot of time in Berlin and love the bar scene there, so we have created Honey Trap Club with it in mind.  We wanted to create something that had a different feel to the rest of the venues in the Northern Quarter to continue the growth of Manchester’s nightlife scene”.

And the team behind the bar will be looking to revive classic cocktail gems, with re-imagined retro classics and no fluffy garnishes. Think Vesper Martinis, and Between the Sheets. Making it the perfect hideout to wind-down with friends for a chilled drink or a game of table football. And when the weekend arrives the tempo rises and Manchester’s top hip-hop DJs will be on the decks until the early hours.

Above Honey Trap Club will be BAB, a gourmet kebab concept serving the grilled meat favourite in an all day, ‘grown-up’ 60 cover restaurant with an open chargrill kitchen. The restaurant will serve dishes including lamb adana with feta and pistachio labneh, herb-marinated hanger steak with cumin cauliflower puree and molasses chilli sauce and homemade paneer with roast carrot puree, pickled currants and crispy shallots.

The menu will also feature starters such as charred baby octopus, herb salad and sumac, radicchio and pomegranate salad and ras-el-hanout lamb bonbon with date chutney.

Honey Trap Club and BAB will be based in 14 Little Lever Street open fours days a week from 4pm Wednesday to Saturday. The bar will open until 12pm on a Wednesday, 1am on a Thursday, and 3am on a Friday and Saturday.

Both venues are scheduled to open in November. Check back here for more information.
