Afflecks, Manchester’s popular independent shopping emporium, is getting ready for some spooktacular celebrations this Halloween, with plenty of spine-tingling activities happening to get everyone in the spooky spirit. The building, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, is set to be transformed into a Halloween House of Horror on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October, and will be decked out from head to toe with frighteningly fun decorations, and traders will be donning their best fancy dress gear too.
There’s even a £50 voucher up for grabs for fancy dress fanatics at Afflecks this year. Anyone who wants to be in with a chance to win should come to Afflecks in their most extravagant ensembles and make their way up to the exhibition space on the third floor, take a picture behind Afflecks’ Halloween selfie frame and upload their spooky snap to Instagram tagging @afflecks_manchester for a chance to win.
For scary movie lovers, a Halloween movie theatre will be set up on the third floor. Spooktacular classics The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands will be in rotation over the weekend, playing at 11am and 2pm each day.
There’s also more prizes to be won on the Saturday of the Halloween Weekender, with independent beauty collective Doll Parts throwing a Trick or Treat Tombola, where visitors can win a number of giveaways and discounts. Similarly, jewellery shop Sour Cherry will be giving away 50 goody bags and staging ghoulish Halloween games.
Local foodie legends Kong’s have a pop up store over the entirety of the Halloween Weekender, and will be serving up hair-raisingly good burgers and tacos. Rum liqueur connoisseurs, Witch Kings Rum, will also be giving visitors a peak into their magic emporium, with rum tasting classes on offer. There’ll also be a host of mocktails on offer at their pop up store, located on the second floor between Soapy J’s and the Animaid Cafe.
Plus, there will be a host of haunted happenings going on across the whole weekend for believers in magic and supernatural spirits. OCCULT Patches & Pins, located on the ground floor, are set to hold spellcasting and spirit stone talks, whilst Ritual Interest will perform interactive séances every hour from 11am ‘til close on both the Saturday and Sunday.
Any visitors who fancy levelling up their costumes this year should head to American Graffiti, located on the second floor of Afflecks, where stacks of quirky fancy dress can be found. Grin, which can be found on the ground floor, similarly has plenty of fabulous vintage clothing and sunglasses, as well as UV make-up and hair dye, for those wanting to reign in the spooky season in style. There’s also Zeffa (second floor) and Elysia (first floor), for those who want a more gothic-feel to their get up this year. Halloween face paintings will also be available from Make Up or Break Up across the weekend.
The Afflecks Halloween Weekender will take place over Saturday 29th October and Sunday 30th October from 11am – 6pm.
