We don’t seem to be coming to the end of complaining about train travel in the North West, but now there has ben a significant timetable change making it easier for people in Manchester and Liverpool to get home late at night. TransPennine Express (TPE) is set to launch new late-night train services between Manchester and Liverpool for enjoying a night out in both cities, so customers who have been to a gig or the theatre will now be able to travel between the two later than before.
The late-night train service will run from Liverpool Lime Street directly to Manchester Victoria from Tuesday to Saturday, leaving at 12:18am. There will also be a train leaving Liverpool Lime Street at 9:31pm, calling at Lea Green, Newton-le-Willows, Manchester Oxford Road, Manchester Piccadilly, and Manchester Airport.
From Manchester, there will now be a weekday service at 10:53pm travelling from Manchester Airport to Liverpool Lime Street, calling at Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Oxford Road, Urmston, Irlam, Birchwood, Warrington Central and Liverpool South Parkway.
The new timetable, including the late-night train services between Manchester and Liverpool, will be brought in from Sunday 2 June, along with the rest of the national rail network.
While the majority of services will stay the same, changes across TPE’s network will include:
- 40 services per day along the West Coast Mainline (Manchester Airport/Liverpool Lime Street to Edinburgh/Glasgow Central)
- Extra services between Manchester – York via Wakefield and Castleford
- Additional summer weekend services between York and Scarborough for trips to the seaside
