Two Manchester bus routes have changes this week. Route 38 is on diversion in the evenings and overnight while Chapel Street in Salford is closed, and route 114 is skipping stops on Oldham Street and Rochdale Road. The Oldham Street stop reopens tomorrow, but the Rochdale Road stop has no return date.
Route 38: Chapel Street closure, evenings and overnight
According to TfGM’s service alerts, route 38 is on diversion because of works on Trinity Way and Chapel Street in Salford, which involve a Chapel Street road closure. The diversion applies only between 7pm and 5am, so daytime services will run as normal.
The closure runs on two stretches:
- Wednesday 4 to Saturday 7 November, every night. That includes tonight (Thursday), tomorrow, and Saturday.
- Monday 9 to Wednesday 11 November, every night.
If you travel home on the 38 after work or on a night out, allow extra time on those evenings.

Route 114: two stops out of use
Route 114 buses cannot serve Stop EE on Oldham Street because of carriageway repairs. The restriction began on Monday 2 November at 8am and ends on Friday 6 November at 3.30pm. From tomorrow afternoon, the stop should be back in use.
The second change lasts longer. Buses on the 114 cannot serve the Marshall Street stop on Rochdale Road because of building works next to the stop. That has been the case since Tuesday 20 October, and TfGM gives no end date, only “until further notice”.

Check before you travel
These details come from the TfGM alerts for Portland Street / Charlotte Street (Stop CK), updated on 4 November. TfGM can change diversions at short notice, so check the TfGM live departures and service alerts page for routes 38, 114 and 85A before you leave, particularly if you board on Chapel Street, Oldham Street or Rochdale Road.
