If you often find yourself thinking you’d love to make some more space for hobbies in your free time, you’re definitely not alone. In fact, 49% of Brits struggle to break away from usual habits (like scrolling and watching TV), despite 55% saying they feel the most themselves when engaging in hands-on activities, according to a nationwide study by Poretti. So, they’re inspiring Mancunians to get back in touch with their creativity with The Uncommon Inn, a free-to-enter pop-up pub takeover centred around connecting with others whilst trying out new skills.

The Uncommon Inn is popping up at Matt & Phreds on Tib Street on Thursday October 22nd from 4pm-8pm. Entry is free, but it’s first come, first served – so get down there early!
So what exactly goes on at The Uncommon Inn? Visitors will get the chance to have a break from their screens and discover something new, with an exciting line-up of creative demonstrations and live experiences. And whilst this pub trip might be a little different to your usual, you’ll be sure to enjoy it all with a drink in hand, as attendees will receive complimentary drinks, with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available.
So get ready to break out of your routine and feel inspired as you watch talented creatives bring their skills to life, from beautiful handcrafted goods to one-of-a-kind live music:
- Chainstitch embroidery: Giulio Miglietta will use a vintage, hand-cranked Singer machine from the early 1900s to create custom stitch designs on beer mats.
- 3D body-casting: Expert sculptor Ami of Angelcasts will demonstrate the art of creating incredibly detailed body casts using high-quality, long-lasting materials.
- Glass etching: Leigh Calligraphy will use precision power drills and traditional ink scripts to transform Poretti glassware into bespoke, hand-engraved works of art, live.
- Sustainable craft: Sabira of Sken Studios will showcase her playful, handmade jewellery designs, crafted from recycled silver with a focus on creating pieces that are made to last.
