Greater Manchester favourites The Lathums have announced a very special hometown gig series for 2027, but what do we actually know about this successful four-piece?
The Lathums: local band history
Formed in Pemberton, Wigan in 2018 by singer Alex Moore, guitarist Scott Concepcion, bassist Johnny Cunliffe, and drummer Ryan Durrans, The Lathums quickly emerged as a standout modern guitar band in Greater Manchester.
Early tracks like The Great Escape and local pub gigs led to discovery by Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess, high-profile support slots for Blondie and Gerry Cinnamon, and a major deal with Island Records in 2020.

Their James Skelly-produced 2021 debut album, ‘How Beautiful Life Can Be‘, topped the UK Albums Chart, a feat repeated by 2023’s ‘From Nothing to a Little Bit More‘ alongside new bassist Matty Murphy. Graduating from grassroots venues to selling out Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl and Wigan’s 11,500-capacity Robin Park Arena in 2024, the band released their third record, ‘Matter Does Not Define‘, in 2025.
Known for charity work with local food banks and Wigan Athletic FC, The Lathums carry forward the North West indie lineage of bands like The Smiths, The Stone Roses, and The Verve (also from Wigan).
The Lathums 2027 hometown gig series
With all that in mind, The Lathums have now announced an intimate run of live shows across Manchester to mark the fifth anniversary of that chart-topping 2021 debut album, ‘How Beautiful Life Can Be‘.
Returning to the grassroots spaces that helped launch their career, the four-piece will play a series of special performances at landmark venues across the city, giving fans a rare chance to experience their breakthrough record in close-quarters settings. The upcoming run combines returns to beloved local haunts alongside debut appearances at new spaces across Greater Manchester.
