James Martin Manchester has shut its doors after a 14-year run inside the Great Northern Warehouse’s Manchester235 Casino. Operating since 2012, the celebrity chef’s long-standing restaurant was celebrated for classic British dining, tasting menus, and afternoon tea.
On October 1, Metropolitan Gaming made an official announcement that it would be concluding its long-running partnership with James Martin Manchester. In light of the closure, venue leadership extended sincere thanks to chef James Martin and his entire team, both past and present, for their commitment, professionalism and contribution throughout the partnership.
Despite closing his Manchester restaurant, the Yorkshire celebrity chef, James Martin, 54, still operates venues like The Lygon Arms in Broadway in The Cotswolds. The former BBC Saturday Kitchen host turned ITV presenter remains a staple on British screens and a frequent presence at local culinary events.

“Our partnership with James Martin and his team has been an important part of Manchester235’s story since 2012.”
Reflecting on the partnership, Maxine Gibbons, Venue Director at Manchester235, said: “Our partnership with James Martin and his team has been an important part of Manchester235’s story since 2012. We would like to thank James and everyone who has been part of the James Martin Manchester team over the years for their commitment, hard work and the memorable experiences they have created for our guests.
“James and his team have made a significant contribution to the food and beverage experience at Manchester235, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they have brought to the venue. We wish James and the team every success for the future.”

Next steps for guests and staff
Operationally, Metropolitan Gaming has taken swift measures to support its workforce following the announcement. Crucially, all employees impacted by the closure have been retained within the wider business.
For diners holding upcoming bookings, Manchester235 will reach out directly to coordinate all reservation cancellations. Meanwhile, Metropolitan Gaming reaffirms its ongoing commitment to the venue, with further details regarding a fresh food and beverage concept to be announced in due course.
